These Watermelon and Yogurt Frozen Dog Treats are super simple to throw together and trust me, your pups will love them on a hot summer day! If you are worried about mess (as they do melt when licked), consider just adding one to your dog’s food bowl. Problem solved!
CAN DOGS EAT WATERMELON? Yes! As a treat and in moderation, most dogs tolerate watermelon well.
It should be fed as a treat in addition to their regular, well-balanced diet. Always feed in bite-sized chunks
and without any seeds or the rind.
For this recipe, you’ll need:
The first step is to cut your watermelon into chunks. Remember to use seedless watermelon for this recipe. Add your yogurt.
The honey is for sweetness, but if your watermelon is very ripe and naturally sweet, feel free to omit it.
Run the food processor until it’s a liquid. It should sort of resemble a smoothie at this point.
Pour the liquid into your molds. I am using these silicone dog bone and paw molds I found on Amazon (*affiliate links). If you don’t have them, you could simply use an ice cube tray.
TIP: I find using a glass measuring cup (or something with a pour spout) the simplest way to fill these.
IMPORTANT: Keep the treats small and bite-sized. Anything larger becomes a choking hazard. As always, supervise your pet when giving treats.
As you can see, I have my silicone molds on a baking sheet as they are flexible and we need them stable. Freeze for several hours, or even better, overnight until they are completely frozen.
The silicone molds are nice because they pop right out with no sticking. And just look at that detail! Of course, that’s mainly for us dog parents as the pups don’t seem to notice (or care about) these things
This is Sparky. I let him sniff it since he had never had watermelon before. After a second, he snatched it from my hand and played with it for a bit before eating it. I keep them contained to the tile kitchen floor just in case there’s some clean up involved afterwards.
NOTE: If your pet doesn't take to watermelon, blueberries are a nice option!
According to the AKC: "Yes, dogs can eat blueberries. Blueberries are a great source of vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, and more. This fruit is a healthy snack for both large and small dogs, and most pups love them."

Equipment
- Food Processor
- Ice Cube Trays OR Dog Treat Molds
- Sheet Pan (that will fit into the freezer)
Ingredients
- 1 1/2 c Seedless Watermelon Rind removed and cut into cubes
- 5.3 oz Greek (or Plain) Yogurt
- 2 tsp Honey
Instructions
- Add watermelon, yogurt and honey to a food processor and run until you get a smooth mixture.
- Add the mixture to a container that has a spout to make filling your molds easier.
- Place desired molds onto a sheet pan and fill.
- Freeze until completely firm, overnight is best.
- Simply remove from the molds and serve to your pup (supervised, of course).
